Is Your Website Secure?

The time is here, are you ready? Google had set July 2018 as the deadline for all websites to migrate over to using an SSL encryption. They have been pushing for more security for years now via their blog as well as the Google Search Console. Due to the complexity of migrating to an HTTPS site, many companies have not fully adopted this push for more website security. However, the deadline for when sites need to become secure is upon us. For those that remain unsecure, there will be an impact on your site’s traffic.

What does this really mean?

Based on the information from Google, a warning will begin to be shown with all unsecure websites. In the past, there is an icon displaying for HTTP pages in the address bar, but right now, the “not secure” message will now appear.

How will this impact my business?

Having your site read “non-secure” as soon as someone lands on your homepage will severely impact your traffic. Especially in this day and age with all of the data breaches, spending time browsing a “non-secure” site would definitely not be a wise thing to do. People are going to close out immediately. Your overall bounce rates will rise, your lead generation will decrease as well as your conversions and your sales will drop.

Take a look at how it looks when you arrive on a site that is not secured. Sounds scary huh? Doesn’t look that nice either… “Your connection to this site is not fully secure. Attackers might be able to see the images you’re looking at on this site and trick you by modifying them.”

In addition, you are going to lose your organic search engine rankings for your content in Google search results. Over 92% of ALL searches originate from Google… just take a moment to think about how this will impact your SEO.

What do you need to do?

Well, honestly that is a no-brainer… you need to migrate from HTTP to HTTPS right now! This is not a simple task and there is a lot of information out there that can help you accomplish this.  Adding the proper security to your site is imperative to keep all of the hard work you have done for your business.

New World Scribes has the skills and methodology to create a plan for your site IF it is currently running on the non-secure HTTP encryption.

Now is the time for the upgrade. With Google placing a high priority around security for their users, all websites need to follow suit and do the same.
